Summer Fun for Kids BlogSchool’s out for summer!  And while there is no shortage of summer camps going in Southeast Texas, things can get a little pricey if you have more than one child.  So how can you keep your kids occupied without killing your cash flow?  Check out our eight picks for cheap summer fun below.  Most are under $10!

1.  Visit the Beaumont Children’s Museum

Housed inside the Beaumont Civic Center, the Children’s Museum allows kids to explore science, art, and world cultures.  Admission is only $5, and it’s open daily.

2.  Treat the Family to Mini Golf

At under $8 a game, playing mini golf is a great way to entertain the kids on the cheap.  Check out Adventure Kingdom in Lumberton for a little Medieval-inspired fun or jump in your mining cart and head to Colorado Canyon.

3.  Step Back in Time at the McFaddin-Ward House

If your kids have never visited the McFaddin-Ward House, it’s definitely an impressive sight to behold.  MWH is hosting several summer day camps for just $15 per child.  When it comes to Southeast Texas summer camps, theirs are some of the most reasonable in the area.

 4. Join a Summer Reading Club

Cultivate your child’s love for reading by joining your local library’s Summer Reading Program.  The Beaumont Public Library will be hosting kid friendly events almost every day during June and July, and kids /students ages 3 – 18 can log the books they read for a chance to win weekly prizes.  The best part – it’s all FREE!

5.  Skate on Tuesdays and Save Big

We’re not sure when Manning’s Texas on Wheels opened its doors, but we do know this – it has been the go-to place for a great time since the 90’s.  If you’re looking to treat the kids to some frugal fun, head to Manning’s on Tuesdays.  They can skate for just $2 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

6.  Museum of the Gulf Coast Explore It

Load up the kids and head to Museum of the Gulf Coast for some “out of this world” fun during July!  This year, the museum’s Explore It program is all about outer space.  At just $3 per session, it’s quite the bargain.

7.  Splash around at Port Neches Park

Southeast Texas summers can get pretty steamy.  Beat the heat by bringing your little ones to Port Neches Park.  After they’ve splashed to their heart’s content, there’s lots more FREE fun to be had at the Tugboat Island play area.

8.  Catch a $5 Movie at Tinseltown

Tuesdays are discount days at Tinseltown in Beaumont!  Catch a flick with your kids for just $5.  It’s the perfect solution for rainy days or afternoons when it’s just too hot to play outside.

So, what does your family do to keep your kiddos entertained without breaking the bank? If you have suggestions, leave us a comment on Facebook.  Here’s to a fun, frugal, fantastic summer!
